30 Days of Photos--Day 5 AND Obscure Monday

That's right, two posts in one!  I figured I should get back to my Monday posts.  I know yall missed them!  So without further ado I give you tonight's Obscure Monday post (yep, that's right you have to wait until later in the post to see my next photo).

Title: Chrysalis

First off, this movie is in French so if you don't know French or like movies with subtitles, you won't like this one.

The plot line is great, full of action and twists.  It goes between two different storylines that intersect near the middle-ish.

There's a mind control machine, government co-ops, a haunted cop, and a crazy woman.  It's full of suspense and keeps you guessing.  The hand-to-hand fighting is superbly choreographed, as is the gun fighting.

Overall, it's just one of those you have to see to really know how great it really is. 

Could it be the two biggest days in my sorority career???

There are so many to choose from.  I guess these are all my favorites in one way or another.  Yeah, I know, there is more than 1 photo... my blog, I don't care lol!!!

Anyway, I may only have a very short post tomorrow.  The Germans are coming....

*pause for effect*

My work's headquarters are in Germany and they are sending people to audit us on Wednesday.  Apparently they are really strict and a little crazy about some things.  Little nervous?  You betcha!  I would say I'm just gonna be me, but that might get me fired.  Lol jk, just need to put on my "super professional" panties and suck it up when it comes to joking around with donors...  ugh...

Obscure Monday

Title: Heartless

First and foremost, if you watch this on Netflix the sound quality is oddly horrendous. 

The basic storyline is this: an awkward guy (with a heart shaped birthmark on his face) who can never seem to get the girl makes a deal with the devil to get the girl of his dreams.  It's a British film, which in my experience makes it all the more creepy.  Those Brits sure know how to make this country girl jump!

It takes awhile to get to the deal, first you have to watch the main character go downhill.  First he sees these strange, screaming creatures.  Later he watches as they kill his mother.  Then his nephew is torn apart by what the news calls gang related violence.

The deal itself is very unexpected.  A child, what looks like a redneck for the devil, a little fire, and what seems like an easy trade is all it really is.

The poor guy gets himself in some interesting situations.  There is a lot of blood after a time, which, for a person that doesn't mind the gore, had me gagging at times.  It was just really realistic; more so than most I've seen.

The twist at the end is both expected and surprising.

Overall, I liked the movie.  It was just a little hard to follow--rather slow moving.  You definitely need to be in the mood for something that requires your full attention.  It's demented and heartwarming at the same time.

It seems like I always pick the movies that are trying to tell you to love who you are and to not let anyone change that.  It's not on purpose, I promise.

Obscure Monday

Title: Session 9

The description of this movie creates an odd picture of the main character.  He is an asbestos remover who says he can rid an old psychiatric hospital of the dangerous substance in a week.  It's full of actors from the CSI series's, which is odd.

In the beginning you get a small tour of the old hospital and some history.  Which to me is super interesting!  I love learning about old buildings, especially ones with sordid histories.  The random chair that they come across not long into the movie is pretty ominous, and a good foreshadowing of events to come.

The storyline is about satanic cults.  It is supposedly based on true "untold" stories of people who were committed to mental institutions in the 1980s. 

You get to listen to old sessions between the doctor and a patient named Mary Hobbes.  Mary has multiple personalities; the personalities know about each other somewhat, but Mary doesn't know she has them.

Hank, one of the characters, finds a treasure trove in the old crematorium.  Talk about creepy.  Then he runs across an old jar of Jif peanut butter.  Odd but funny.

Of course, things start going a little crazy but the movie never really gets scary.  There are a few horror movie cliches: don't go anywhere alone in a psychiatric hospital, don't trust anyone, don't go into dark areas with only a flashlight, don't listen to the voices in your head, don't leave the generator running or use it as your only power source, don't follow the hall of rubber suits, don't ignore the turned over wheelchair that is shaking, don't approach your friend who has been missing when they are half naked and rocking in the fetal position in the dark, don't eat your boss's Oreos, don't go back in the building once you leave, etc.  Okay, so a lot of them, haha.

It's slow and hard to follow.  It left me confused and a little frightened of ever going to a shrink.  I also will probably never go back to the eye doctor and let them stick things close to my eyes.

The morals I got from the story: Don't clean old psychiatric hospitals, don't follow a trail of old coins in the basement of said places, sometimes it's okay to run like a chicken shit (stolen from my bestie).

I do recommend it if you like very very odd and obscure, but if not then don't watch it.

Obscure Monday

Title: The people I've Slept With

The movie starts out with Angela starting a video to her child about how said child came to be.  She describes herself as a previous girl next door who liked sex. She likes having sex with both men and women.  She takes pictures of the people she sleeps with, says it's her pornography.  She finds out she's pregnant and isn't sure who the father is.

Her gay best friend is very supportive, but thinks she should have an abortion because she is not ready to have children.  Her sister, on the other hand, is completely against the idea of abortion.

Her family is not very traditional, other than her sister's part of the family.

The movie follows her search for the father and preparing for motherhood.  Her best friend cheats on a guy and then realizes he is love with him, so it is also following him and his journey.

This movie is comical, heartfelt, and at times sad.

I really liked the movie, but at times it was somewhat redundant.  There isn't really a moral to this one except maybe live your own life.  You kinda have to be in a certain type of movie for this one.  It's definitely a romcom, but it has elements of other things.  The storyline isn't the most exciting, but it is entertaining.


Off to watch the Thunder game!  Thunder Up!!!!!

Obscure Monday

Title: Were The World Mine
This was a movie my little brother recommended to me.  It's a musical, however, in the first few minutes it won't strike you as such.

The main character Timothy goes to an all male school.  The kicker is that he's gay.  He lives with his mother who has just recently gotten a job.  Timothy, played by Tanner Cohen ("The Life Before Her Eyes" and Tad Becker in "As the World Turns"), tries out for the senior play A Midsummer Night's Dream.

The movie follows Timothy and his mother as they deal with the daily challenges of his being openly gay.  It is heart wrenching but hilarious at times, as well.

Timothy gets the part of Puck and proceeds to pull a puckish trick on the boys at his school and the people in his town.  This brings about all sorts of troubles and funny events in his town.  The twists in this movie will have you begging for more.  Unlike most musicals, it isn't all music with a little dialogue.  The balance is amazing.

Oh my goodness, this movie had me in tears, both empathetic and happy tears!   It teaches you not to judge and to see the world through the eyes of other people.  You really need to have an open mind to appreciate this movie.

My favorite line: "I'm not a lesbian.  I'm hetero-flexible." boyfriend replies and she says "I'm straight but shit happens."

Just so yall know, I'm IN LOVE with this movie!!!  It is definitely one I would recommend this to everyone!

Obscure Monday

Title: Aaah! Zombies!!
The premise of this movie, which is what first interested me, is that is a zombie movie from the perspective of the zombies.

To the actual movie.

The beginning of this movie shows how zombies came to be.  Pretty run of the mill--experiment gone wrong.  Until you get to the WAY it got into the general public that is.  The doctor who created the virus relabels the barrels of the stuff as baby formula.

You have your stereotypical characters: ditzy blonde, dorky-awkward guy, party guy, the hot driven female, and the guy trying to be the hero.

I won't ruin the plot line for you.  The dialogue is atrocious, but the idea is good.  As with any zombie movie there is a lot of blood and gore, but not in the normal way.  The effects aren't the greatest, but they are comical.

The writers and directors tried to make the movie into somewhat of a love story.  The zombie makeout scene is pretty funny.  As is finding out what happens when zombies have sex.  Then there's the epiphany, that oddly sounds like the founding of America.

My favorite part?  Finally learning the origin of Thing.  Haha, just kidding, but you'll understand once you watch it.

All in all it's a good movie if you like strange and awkward spoofs.  It does have a moral oddly enough: Accept yourself.

I recommend it.
